Open Rally Competition

Lochaber and District Canine Society held a rally obedience competition in the Ballachulish village hall on Sunday 17th September. 14 dogs and handlers, from as nearby as Glencoe and as far afield as St Andrews, entered and worked hard with their dogs, achieving some excellent results. Pam Cuthbert, from Dundee, with her collie Mozzie, took first place in both levels 1 and 2.  Some of our own club members also did extremely well;

Ann Winning and Naraydeon Black Coffee scoring a qualifying score of 187 in Level 1

Kerry Stuart and Sundrenched Spring placed 6th in Level 2 with a non qualifying score of 160

The organiser Sarah Holroyd would like to thank judge Elaine Miller, scribe Susie Galloway, score keeper Tanya Stuart. Thanks also go to the LDCS committee for support of the event and the venue for the use of a terrific hall.

The kennel club describes Rally as a sort of ‘obedience exercise obstacle course’ including simple exercises; with you and your dog working as a team to navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform.

The course is set by the judge or trainer. There is no pause between exercises – you and your dog work briskly through the course without direction from the judge. You are encouraged to talk to and praise your dog during the performance. Any dog can get involved; your dog does not have to be a pedigree dog to take part, but if you want to compete it must be registered with the Kennel Club on either the Breed Register or the Activity Register.
